Mr. Stanford has practiced law for over 35 years. By way of background, Bruce came to Alaska when he was 17 working as a helicopter logger for Columbia Helicopters on Prince of Wales Island. While he attended University of the Pacific, he worked the summers working as a deckhand for Alaska Packers Association in Bristol Bay on Salmon Tenders. Several seasons later he landed a commercial fishing job with a prestigious Italian family gillnetting in Bristol Bay. He continued commercial fishing to pay his way through McGeorge School of Law. He was involved in the fishery for over 25 seasons. Mr. Stanford also participated in commercial tuna fishing off the coast of Central America and fished for halibut in the waters of Valdez.
Mr. Stanford is a 'Plaintiff's Lawyer.' He is widely known for his zealous representation of his clients whether it involves joint venturing with nationally ranked law firms to pursue complex class action antitrust litigation or handling day to day legal needs for everyday clients. For example, see Alakayak et al v. British Columbia Packers, 48 P.3d 432 (Alaska 2002) Bristol Bay Commercial fishermen sued salmon packers and Japanese salmon importers alleging damages for unfair grounds prices paid for their sockeye deliveries resulting in over $40,000,000.00 in Settlements. See also, In re California Vitamins Cases, 110 Cal. App. 4th 1041 (Cal. Ct. App. 2003), 2 Cal. Rptr 3d 358. Mr. Stanford representing a class of cattlemen’s claims with resulted in a global settlement of all other claimants of over $98,000,000. Mr. Stanford has also practices municipal law by incorporating the City of Pilot Point, Alaska. See, Keane v. Local Boundary Commission and Incorporators of Pilot Point, 893 P.2d 1239 (Alaska 1995) His firm has recently been rehired to represents this client.
Mr. Stanford is also a graduate of AVTEC Maritime School, located in Seward with a 200 GT Master Mate credentials. Mr. Stanford has also achieved millions of dollars in Personal Injury settlements on behalf of injured Alaskans. When Mr. Stanford’s law firm represents a Personal Injury client there is no fee until you get paid.
Mr. Stanford has also guided for Brown Bear and other large game on the Alaska Peninsula, built two Scandinavian style log cabins and has owned an organic hay and cattle ranch in Surprise Valley, California. He still enjoys hunting, fishing, boating and training his newly acquired black Labrador Rowdy for hunting birds in the fall and winter months.
